Obituary of Charles Edward Spear Sr.
Charles Edward Spear, Sr., better known as Charlie, was born August 31, 1941 to William Oscar and Ethel Tennessee Cowsert Spear. Charles departed this life on Friday, June 11, 2021.
Charles joined the United States Air Force October of 1960 at the age of 19 and retired from disability on December 8, 1970. During this time he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Spanish.
On June 15, 1974 Charles and Sonja McMaster were joined in Holy Matrimony. They would spend the next 47 years together.
Charles was an avid hunter, fisherman and trapper. He spent the majority of his time outdoors. He was also a member of the Paul C. Rowan American Legion Post #571.
Charlie leaves to mourn in his passing, his wife, Sonja; daughters, Ana Spear of California, Deborah and Duane Simmons of Rosiclare, IL, and Julie and Greg Hobbs of Rosiclare, IL; grandchildren, Matthew Spear, Michael and Karina Spear, Michele Spear, Giana Kischmischian all of California, Jaedyn and Brian Burton of Herod, IL, Hunter and Wyatt Hall of Rosiclare, IL, Charles Hobbs of Elizabethtown, IL, Michael Hobbs of Rosiclare, IL and Johnny Simmons of Rosiclare, IL; one great-grandson, Riley Burton of Herod, IL; sisters, Helen Robinson of Rosiclare, IL and Alice Bryan of Colo, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Oscar and Ethel Spear; son, Charles Edward Spear, Jr.; brothers, Arthur and William (Bill), Jr.; sisters, Wilma Spear and Ada Meadows; two very special nephews; close friends, Harold Thomas and Phillip Raines; three half brothers; one half sister; several nieces and nephews and one step-grandson.
Memorial services are scheduled for 1 p.m., Saturday, June 26 at Honeycomb Church. Visitation is scheduled for 11 a.m. until service time at the church.
Memorials may be made to the Paul C. Rowan American Legion Post #571.
