A surprise retirement party was held in honor of Rosiclare Chief of Police Charles Lampert on Wednesday, December 17, 2025 at the Rosiclare City Hall. He was joined by his wife Dana, and sons, Dalton and Ryan, City employees, Rosiclare Mayor Roy “Jug” Tolbert, Clerk Bishop, commissioners Vaughn, Winchester, Goolsby, and Stone, fellow Hardin County law enforcement officers, and Officer Sloan from the Illinois State Police.
Mayor Tolbert said a few words honoring Lampert and presented him with a plaque for his loyal service and protection over Rosiclare for the past 25 years.
Lampert addressed the group and thanked everyone for their attendance in honoring him at his retirement. Lampert said he started his 40 year career in various supportive roles of law enforcement in 1985, first as a Hardin County Sheriff’s Department Dispatcher. He held that role for several years before becoming a Hardin County Sheriff’s Deputy. After 6 years there, he worked for a total of 10 years as Investigator for the Hardin County State’s Attorney. While working as the Investigator, Lampert was hired on as a Rosiclare Police Officer and worked both jobs simultaneously for about 5 years. His wife added that those were long days, 16 hours per day! In 2003, Lampert was promoted to Rosiclare Chief of Police and has protected and served Rosiclare ever since.
Lampert said that he was ready for retirement and it was time for someone else to take it on. He said newly hired Rosiclare Police Officer Brian Burton will be a good addition to the City, being qualified, trained, and experienced.
During the ceremony, Dennis Riley was also recognized for his dedication and service as a part time Rosiclare Police Officer. Riley was promoted to Sergeant on December 9, 2025 by Mayor Tolbert and Lampert.
After the ceremony, guests enjoyed a light lunch.
Both Lampert and Riley retired on Thursday, December 18, 2025. When Lampert’s shift ended that day at 4:00 p.m., he received a special escort home. With flashing reds and blues engaged, the fire department, ambulance, and other law enforcement officers escorted Lampert to his residence, honoring him on his final trip home from work. A 10-42 (end of watch statement) was announced over scanner traffic by the dispatcher during the escort.
