Obituary of Regina Dewey Austin

Regina Dewey Austin was born in Livingston County, Kentucky on June 23, 1927 to Emmett Russell Dewey and Nellie Mae Threlkeld Dewey. Regina passed away on Sunday, April 27, 2025 at the age of 97.
She married Glen Harold Austin on June 4, 1949 in Hardin County, IL. Regina and Glen were married for 59 years when he passed away in 2008.
She also had a sister, Elsie Marie Humm who preceded her in death.
Regina is survived by her three children, Sandra Lee (Hal) Orbits, Linda Sue Brazier (Dale, deceased) and Bradley Joe (Sharon) Austin; grandchildren, Christopher Michael Orbits, Kimberly Jean DeLeon, Laura Michelle Hardy, Ryan Dale Brazier, Bradley Jamison Gross Austin and Jaron Emmett Austin; several great- and great-great-grandchildren and sister, Betty Pennington.
Regina enrolled in MacMurray College in 1946 where she quickly became a standout on the field hockey team.
Regina was a teacher and began her career when there were still one room schools in Hardin County. She taught all grades and loved what she did. She was coach of the girl’s softball team and fought for Title IX which gave equal sports rights to females. Those students who had her in high school will always bring up the game “bottom soccer.”
Regina was a lifelong member of the Church Of Christ and served as an Elder’s wife. She will be missed by many, but leaves good memories behind.
Services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 30, 2025 at Hardin County Funeral Service in Rosiclare, IL with entombment in Fluorine Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from noon until service time Wednesday at the funeral home.
