Eddie Dale “Heck” Rose

Obituary of Eddie Dale (Heck) Rose
Eddie Dale “Heck” Rose was born to Lynn Dale and Shirley Rose on September 3rd, 1958 at Hardin County General Hospital in Rosiclare, Illinois. He departed this life September 2nd, 2024 at his home in Elizabethtown, Illinois surrounded by loved ones.
Eddie (Heck) grew up at Rock Creek, Illinois. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, ginseng hunting, playing cards and playing pool. His love of pool would lead to meeting the love of his life, Bridgid Duffey. Heck and Bridgid married April 7th, 1984 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Their union was blessed with two children, John Richard and Makayla Lynn.
Heck was a hard worker and provided for his family by a variety of jobs over the years. His strong work ethic began while helping Lonnie Ray Lewis tend to his crops. His many jobs over the years included: farming, mining, maintenance, raising cattle and as a foreman with the Hardin County Highway Department. Heck served his community in various roles, including Elizabethtown Assistant Fire Chief, Auxiliary Deputy at Hardin County Sheriff’s Office and as Mayor of Elizabethtown for 17 and a half years.
In his younger years he owned a brown 1968 Chevy Impala and his cousin Joe owned a green Chevy Impala. They would spend Saturday nights playing cards with the residents of the nursing home. Later in the evening they would chase each other in their Impalas. Playing a mobile game of hide and seek on the back streets of Rosiclare.
Heck never met a stranger and was always there to lend a hand. He could be found supporting his kids in all their various activities. He loved sitting on the porch and watching people pass by. He would visit with anyone who stopped by and every Sunday morning he would “go to class” with the gentlemen at the gas station. I’m sure his mother-in-law, who he affectionately called Red, greeted him at the gates with a cup of coffee. Many will have a favorite story or memory of Heck.
Heck lived a full life and enjoyed many things: family, cooking, auto shows, pool, poker, fishing and antique shows. His favorite show was “Larry the Cable Guy”. No one could make Heck laugh the way Larry the Cable Guy did.
He loved raising cattle with his brothers. While raising cattle Heck made a point to name each and every cow they owned.
Heck is survived by his wife of forty years, Bridgid; children, John Richard (Jessy Goolsby) and Makayla Lynn; Jingles (his dog and best bud of 12 years); grandchildren, Amelia and Arbor; mother, Shirley Rose; brothers, Danny and Dennis; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lynn Dale Rose; sister, Sandra Conkle; brother, Richard Rose; and granddaughters, Aleah and Adilynn Rose.
A public graveside memorial service was held Tuesday, September 10 at 11:00 a.m. Burial was in Rutherford Cemetery. Heck requested not to wear black attire when attending the service. Hardin County Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
Donations of flowers can be made out to The Flower Basket in Rosclare, Illinois. Any other memorial donations can be dropped by the house of Eddie and Bridgid Rose.
