Obituary of Shirlie Schutt

Shirlie Schutt left this world to be with her heavenly Father on Tuesday, August 13, 2024 at 9:55 a.m. at home, with her family by her side. Shirley was born in Crittenden County, Kentucky to Jeff and Louise (Boswell) Wheatcroft on July 30, 1936, being at the time of her death 88 years and fourteen days old.
Shirlie was a loving wife and mother and a devoted Christian lady. She was a member of Good Hope General Baptist Church where she attended until the time of her death.
Shirlie met the love of her life, J.C., in August 1953 and was married April 3, 1954. To this union three beautiful daughters were born.
Shirlie loved to sew. She made most of her and her daughters’ clothes throughout their school years. She also made her daughters and her grandchildren beautiful quilts. The dresses she made her two oldest granddaughters were amazing and could have been mistaken as Lil Dolly dresses. She also made all the dresses and suits while the family sang at several different churches.
Shirlie owned and operated Schutt’s Grocery in Hickstown for ten years until an illness shown its ugly face to her middle daughter, to which she had to close the doors.
Shirlie taught the teenage Sunday School class at Dutton Chapel Church for a few years. She also taught Bible School classes there and used a bandsaw to cut hundreds of wood pieces for all the crafts. She actually cut so much wood, she burnt up two band saws. She loved every minute minute of it.
Granny, as she was known by her family, was happiest when all her family was around. She loved to watch the grandchildren and eventually the great-grandchildren play outside at their house. She loved to go camping, ride horses, ride three and four wheelers, the side by side, and ride the motorcycle behind her husband. She’s been known to ride backwards on the motorcycle just to get that perfect video of the rest of the riders going by.
Preceding her in death are her parents, Jeff and Louise Wheatcroft; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Clyde and Mollie Schutt; sisters, Joyce Owens, Susie Stanfield, Helen Wheatcroft; sisters-in-law, Mary Vinyard, Faye Harrison; brothers-in-law, L.D. (Doc) Schutt, John Schutt; and half-sisters-in-law, Nina DeNeal and June Bergen.
She leaves to mourn her husband, J.C. Schutt; daughters, Sharon (Eddie) Snyder of Herod, Denita Hahn (Larry Barger) of Golconda, Deann (Randy) Spivey of Cave In Rock; grandchildren, Jason (Austin) Snyder of Herod, David (Stephanie) Hahn of Gibson City, Jennifer (Brian) Price of Harrisburg, Valerie (Eric) Werner of Edwardsville, Jessica Spivey (Justin Millikan) of Princeton KY; great-grandchildren, Levi and Luke Snyder, Kylie and Makaya Price, Meredith and Peyton Hahn, Vivian Werner; siblings, Jim (Melody) Wheatcroft, Janet (Larry) Jackson; brothers-in-law, A.D.
