Obituary of Eva Jesse Williams Winters

Eva Jesse Williams Winters, age 97, of Elizabethtown, IL passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family at 11:22 p.m. on Saturday, October 14, 2023.
She was born October 10, 1926 in Elizabethtown, Illinois, the daughter of Richard and Myrtle Williams.
Eva was first married to Earl Crider and to this union they had one son, Leon Crider. After Earl’s passing she married Harry Winters on September 14, 1946 and they had three sons, Doug, Dennis and Dean. Harry and Eva shared almost 59 years together raising four sons until Harry’s passing on February 27, 2005.
Eva’s first job was washing dishes at the Rose Hotel. She worked in the glove and cap factory, and later in life, she and Harry owned Winters Furniture Store in E’town.
She was a very talented quilter and seamstress, spending many hours making quilts for family and friends. She had a love for making dolls and ceramics in which she shared with her loved ones. Eva had many hobbies aside from crafts such as cooking, gardening, and probably one of her favorite outdoor activities, fishing on the river. She loved her family and never hesitated to tell you a story or two about her four boys and her grandkids.
She is survived by three sons, Leon Crider and wife Anastasia of Metairie, LA, Dennis Winters and wife Debbie of Marion, IL and Dean Winters of Elizabethtown, IL; daughter-in-law Carolyn Winters of Marion, IL; 6 grandchildren, Todd (Tina) Phillips of Evansville, IN, Harry (Ginny) Crider of Laurel Hill, FL, Melissa (David) Anderegg of Kalamazoo, MI, Tim (Diane) Winters of Marion, IL, Tiffany (Matt) Homoya of Marion, IL and Heather Winters of Miami, FL; 12 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Earl Crider; her second husband, Harry Winters; son Doug Winters; and her youngest grandson, whom she greatly adored, Aaron Winters. She also was preceded by 6 siblings and 3 half siblings.
Eva’s wishes were to be cremated with graveside services which will be held on Friday, October 20, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. in Empire Cemetery, Elizabethtown, IL. Family and friends are asked to gather at the cemetery. Memorials may be made to Empire Cemetery and can be mailed to Banterra Bank, c/o Elizabethtown Empire Oddfellow Cemetery, PO Box 186, Elizabethtown, IL 62931.

    Eva, I will be missing you so much. Have missed you since we moved away 20 years ago but we always kept in touch. I have wonderful memories of time spent with you, crafting, sewing, fishing and going to Red Lobster. For all of our fun times going to (as Harry said “buying stuff to put on the yard sale) fabric shops, to the Amish stores etc. You were the “bestest”. Rest easy my dear friend until we meet again.
