David Allen Volkert

David Allen Volkert, 70, of Chatham, died on Thursday, May 25, 2023, at St. John’s Hospital. He was born on April 26, 1953, in Hardin County, the son of Earl Sr. and Hildred (Pyles) Volkert. David married Deborah Swind on April 19, 1975, in North Riverside, IL.
David was a member of the Lakeside Church of Christ. He was a proud member of the Chatham Fire Department for 25 years as Volunteer Fire Fighter/EMT-B and Federal Fire Chaplain for MABAS 48.
David is survived by his beloved wife, Deborah; beloved daughter, Melissa (Daniel) Podwojski; beloved grandchildren, Bryan, Audrey and Kinsley; sister-in-law, Colleen; aunts, Lawanda, Golden, and several cousins including Shirley Mae Volkert.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents, Anton and Daisy Volkert; and brothers, Earl Jr, Roy (Rose), and Douglas; and uncles, Loren and Ben.
Cremation was provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center.
The family will host a Celebration of Life from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 20, 2023, at Lakeside Church of Christ, 65 Rita Rd., Springfield, IL.
