Obituary of Opal Irene (Davis) (Baker) Hubbard
Opal Irene (Davis) (Baker) Hubbard was born February 23, 1931 and went to her heavenly home Wednesday, December 16, 2020 at the age of 89. Opal was born in Hardin County, being the oldest child of Charley and Gladys (Reed) Davis. Opal gave her life to Jesus many years ago and attended Levee Pond Pentecostal Church and enjoyed going to church while she was able.
In 1948, Opal met and married Willard (Bill) Baker and they welcomed their first son, Gary Dwain in 1950 and their second son, Larry Ray, was welcomed in 1953. A few years later in 1955, Opal met and married Arlen (Gene) Hubbard and they welcomed two sons, Terry Eugene born in 1957 and Barry Weldon, born and passed in 1961 and a daughter, Tami Charlene born in 1966. Between Gary, Larry, Terry, and Tami, Opal was blessed with six grandchildren, Vicky, Brandi, Kristy, Blair, Jessica and Kyle. The grandchildren gave her seven more blessings, Mason, Kembra, Thomas, Piper, CJ, Kayden and Naomi.
Opal worked as a cook at Karbers Ridge and Hardin County K-12 schools for several years. She retired from cooking at school in 1995, but she never retired from cooking for her family. Even though she didn’t feel well, she still cooked for Thanksgiving. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed it very much, as did her family.
As the years passed by, and she wasn’t able to go places as often, she enjoyed talking on the phone to her family, coloring in her books, watching her religious shows and HGTV, but most of all visiting with her kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids.
Opal is survived by her sons, Larry and wife Connie Baker of Rosiclare, IL ; Terry Hubbard of Elizabethtown, IL; her daughter, Tami Hubbard of Elizabethtown, IL; her grandchildren, Vicky Baker, Brandi (Hubbard) Gullett, Kristy (Baker) Trusty, Blair (Baker) Deuel, Jessica Hubbard and Kyle Moore; her great-grandchildren, Mason Trusty, Kembra Brown, Thomas Gullett, Piper Gullett, CJ Trusty, Kayden Moore and Naomi Moore; her brother, Charles (Tom) and Loywonnia Davis of Herod, IL; her sister Shirley Faye (Davis) Morrow of Alton, IL; and several nephews, nieces, and cousins.
Opal was preceded in death by her first husband, Willard (Bill) Baker; her second husband, Arlen (Gene) Hubbard; her parents; Charley and Gladys Davis; her sons, Gary Baker and Barry Hubbard; her brother, Garry Don Davis, who was killed in the Vietnam War in 1966; and her sisters, Eleanor and Brenda Davis.
Opal was laid to rest beside her husband Gene and baby boy, Barry at Lavender Cemetery.
There were many times you called me, to see if the next day I would be free. You wanted to get your hair done, or go get groceries and then out to eat. We always had a great time laughing and making many memories. Now those memories are all I have, but so very thankful for each and every one. I’ll never forget some of the funny things that happened and how you laughed until the tears ran down your cheeks, and Kembra would ask, “Mamaw are you okay?” I still find myself thinking, I’ll call Grandma and ask her. I know you are dancing on the streets of gold and you are watching over all of us, but you sure are missed and loved. Don’t have too much fun without us. Until we meet again Grandma.
Love forever and always,
Vicky and Kembra
