Obituary of Margie Nell Lewis
Margie Nell Lewis was born at home on Lead Hill on December 4, 1935. She was the second child of Warren Henry and Nella Beavers. Margie passed away on Tuesday, September 8, 2020 at 10:30 p.m.
Margie spent her youth growing up in the country with her brother and sisters, and lots of cousins.
In 1955, she met a young man at the movies in Rosiclare who flirted with her. She didn’t like him much at the time, but he had beautiful blue eyes. They married in October of 1955.
Margie started work as a cook’s assistant at Rosiclare Grade School in 1966, when her last child started school.
In the early 70’s she went back to school and got her LPN license. She worked many years at Hardin County General Hospital, many years with Dr. Arcuino, and later with Dr. Chatto. She retired in 1994 to care for her husband, Bob, whose health was failing.
Margie and her sisters loved going to the Smokey Mountains every year for years.
She dressed up as a witch on Halloween and handed out her famous popcorn balls. The children and their parents both enjoyed them.
She also was very talented at crochet. She shared her gift by making afghans and Christmas ornaments for those she loved.
Margie loved animals and rescued a dog named Sandy and cats that were strays and gave them a home.
Most of all, she loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed doing outdoor activities with them such as taking them swimming, on long walks, and watching their ball games.
She is survived by her son, Chuck Lewis, of Paducah, KY; daughters, Lori English of Rosiclare, IL and Leslie (Paul) Rash of Ewing, IL; grandchildren, Michael (Paula) English of Arizona, Chris English of Rosiclare, IL, Jade (Amanda) Rash of Thompsonville, IL, Torey Rash of Marion, IL, and Katie English of Cave In Rock, IL; great-grandchildren Christopher, Aiden, Katelynn, Kyler, Graciee and Kenzleigh; sisters Carlene Winders and Corinna Hall; and several nieces and nephews.
Margie was preceded in death by her husband, Bob; son, Vincie; and daughter, Connie; her parents; brother, Jim Barnard; sisters, Mary Belle and Loreta; and son-in-law Perkins English.
The family of Margie Lewis would like to thank everyone for their prayers and support during our time of loss. It has meant so much to our family.
