Obituary of Gaylon Earl Howell Smith

Gaylon Earl Howell Smith, age 76, of Harrisburg, Illinois passed away at 9:45 p.m., Sunday, July 14, 2019 at his residence in Harrisburg, Illinois surrounded by his family. Gaylon was born on August 2, 1942, in Hardin County, to the late, Charles Edward Smith and Margaret Cordelia Henson.
He worked for Coleman Tri-County. Gaylon enjoyed his family and always looked forward to family reunions and holidays. He had a lot of faith and he sure could pray. Gaylon lived in the Robinson house for twenty-two years and enjoyed going to the fire station to “shine the fire trucks”. He also enjoyed going to Jim Hayes to look at the new cars and going to shop at Walmart.
Gaylon is survived by his sister, Lynda Upchurch of Harrisburg, Illinois; brother, Gary Smith and his wife Beatrice of Harrisburg, Illinois; two nieces, Darla Little of Carrier Mills, Illinois and Libby Diefenbach of Carrier Mills, Illinois; nephew, Brian Upchurch of Harrisburg, Illinois; special friends, Amanda, Keyona and Jerret; several great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Gaylon was preceded in death by nephews, Brandon Lee and Shannon Upchurch; nieces, Ashley Dawn Little and Tiffany Foster-King; and brother-in-law, Glen Upchurch.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, July 17, 2019 at Reed Funeral Chapel. Bro. Brent Holloway will officiate and burial will follow in Dixon-Volkert Cemetery in Hardin County. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Strikers Southeastern Residential Association.

    So sorry Lynda I Loved Gaylon I remember when I worked with him years ago at Shawnee House every time I seen him he would say hey I know you we will miss that smile
