Obituary of Shelby E. Nielsen

Shelby E. Nielsen, 17, of Carrier Mills, IL died Tuesday, April 23, 2019 at 11:40 a.m. as the result of a traffic accident on Route 34 in Hardin County. Shelby was born on October 26, 2001 in Carbondale, IL to Keith Nielsen and the late Sarah Horton.
Shelby was a Junior at Carrier Mills/Stonefort High School. She was a current member of the Softball team; a member of the FFA; a member of the Scholar Bowl and a former member of the Volleyball team. She had already completed several courses at Southeastern Illinois College in pursuit of a Mortuary Science Degree and becoming a Mortician. Shelby was always full of life and laughter and touched so many lives.
Shelby is survived by her father, Keith Nielsen of Carrier Mills, IL; brother, Ethan Nielsen of Carrier Mills, IL; grandmothers, Kathleen (Steve) Lewis of Carrier Mills, IL, and Cathy Hunt of Carrier Mills, IL; grandfather, Bob Horton of Marion, IL; stepfather, Ryan Carey of Mt. Vernon, IL; aunt, Katie (Zack) Sanderson; great-grandmothers: Shirley Tison, Emma Horton and Kathryn Headrick; special cousin, Jillian Sanderson; and several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Sarah Horton; grandfather, Dennis Hunt; and great-grandfather, Robert Parish.
Celebration of Life Services will be held Saturday, April 27, 2019 at 11 a.m. at the Carrier Mills/Stonefort Grade School. Visitation will be held Saturday after 9 a.m. at the school. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be made to the family or the funeral home for expenses.

    I cannot tell you how sorry I was to hear about Shelby. She was such a beautiful young lady. My prayers are with you. I am Trace’s great aunt and she always called me Aunt Judi!
