American Fluorite Museum impacted by fire Tuesday

On Tuesday morning, January 29, the American Fluorite Museum in Rosiclare, IL caught on fire around 6:50 a.m. The Rosiclare Fire Department responded to the scene and were able to contain the fire. The Illinois State Fire Marshall and Fire Chief Kevin Carman are continuing an investigation of the fire, but Museum President Wesley Atkinson stated they suspect the fire started near the furnace. A final report has not yet been released.
Museum Secretary Roy Jackson and Museum Board member Gwynn Johnson were also at the museum during the investigation. Johnson described some of the damage from the fire, such as many of the pictures on the walls were melted and there seemed to be a quite a bit of smoke damage.
The group is already in action with plans to protect the remaining artifacts and specimens as the building will be secured. The insurance…
