Obituary of Veldine Venice Riggs

Veldine Venice Riggs, 97, was born May 24, 1926 in Cave-In-Rock, IL to Manford and Mildred (Shore) McDowell. She departed this life on Tuesday, November 14, 2023 at Liberty Village Parkway Manor where upon she went to be with her Lord, being at the time of her death 97 years and 6 months.
She was united in marriage to Noah Franklin Riggs on August 27, 1942. To this union two children were born, Aaron Eugene (Sharon) Riggs of Elizabethtown, IL and Sharon Diane Pennell of Marion, IL.
Veldine devoted her life to serving her family and her church. Her home was always open to family, friend or stranger for a warm meal and some lively conversation.
At the age of 18 she received Christ as her Savior and joined Peters Creek Missionary Baptist Church. This began her lifetime of service to the Lord and her Church. If the doors were open, she was there serving in some capacity. She taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and was Director of the WMU. The first Training Union was established in 1949, with Veldine serving as Superintendent for the Association.
In her later years, Veldine believed she could not be as essential as she once was, but she showed us all the strength of Faith that carries us through difficulties and trials of life. She has been a leader by example and a witness of Christian character throughout her life by her service and commitment to prayer and supplication to the Lord.

Veldine is one of my favorite childhood memories.
Aunt Louise and I always sat in the pew behind her and Noad at Peters Creek Baptist Church.
I loved visiting with Sissy and the good meals.
Remembering Mamaw Riggs would peal and slice the tomatoes
She’s an angel gone back to Heaven. ❤️
