Obituary of John J. Nickas
John J. Nickas, 33, of St. Charles, Illinois passed away Friday, June 2, 2023 in Rosiclare.
John was born January 15, 1990 in Chicago, IL. The son of James and Jeanne “Jan” (Nestor) Nickas.
John was a devoted family man who loved his wife and two little girls more than anything.
He was a passionate teacher for nine years. He began his career at Pope John Paul II School for two years. For the last seven years, he has taught at Still Middle School. He just finished his Master’s Degree in May and was about to start a new position as assistant principal in Addison.
John was a baseball expert, whether watching, coaching, or playing, he loved all things baseball. He was a lifelong Cubs fan; so much so that he made sure to have the playoff game on during his and Stephanie’s wedding. He was a huge heavy metal fan, a movie buff, and history enthusiast. He was a scholar, teacher, coach, mentor and a friend and he was a committed and driven person in everything he did.
John is survived by his wife, Stephanie (Slivka); two daughters, Alexandra “Allie” and Kennedy; parents, James and Jan Nickas; siblings, James (Laura) of Chicago and Jeffrey (Fiancée Corey) of St. Charles; in-laws, John and Nancy (Robertson) Slivka; Stephanie’s grandparents, Jack Slivka and Arlene Robertson; brother-in-law, Cody (Fiance Olivia) Slivka; nephews, Zachary and Shane Nickas; and many other family and friends.
John was preceded in death by his grandparents, James and Elvera Nickas and Dr. Allan and Jeanne Nestor.
Funeral prayers will be held Saturday, June 10, 2023 at 9:30 a.m. at the Malone Funeral Home, 324 East State Street (Rt. 38) Geneva proceeding to St. Peter Catholic Church 1891 Kaneville Rd., Geneva, Illinois for funeral mass at 10:30 a.m. with Father John McFadden Celebrant.
Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Geneva.
Visitation will be held Friday, June 9 from 4:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. at the Malone Funeral Home Geneva.
