Obituary of Ethel Mildred Ramsey
Ethel Mildred Ramsey, 83, passed away on Saturday, April 22, 2023 at Vitas Health Care after an illness. Known by friends as “Skeet,” Ethel was born April 2, 1940 to parents Everett Erno Ramsey and Golda Marie (Johnson) Ramsey in Lusk, Illinois.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, (Erno) Melvin Ramsey and Everett Ramsey; and her friend, Judi Thomas.
She is survived by brother, Earnest Ramsey; friends,Tammy and Ron Stegelmeyer; friend, Janet Blackwell; other extended family, and many other friends.
Ethel attended Pope County High School and worked with special needs children in Harrisburg, Illinois before moving to Granite City, where she lived most of her life. There she worked in a lab operating a mass spectrometer for many years before working in a nursing home until her retirement.
Ethel was a member of New Life Assembly of God Church, and for many years taught Sunday school classes to children and teens. She loved sharing her faith in the Lord and sang and played guitar for a gospel band called “The Calvary Echoes” with Judi Thomas and Bob and Pat Rose.
Ethel enjoyed crosswords and logic puzzles and rarely missed “Wheel of Fortune.” Friends say she could solve lengthy puzzles even before any letters were revealed. She loved telling jokes and was a huge St. Louis Cardinals fan.
She was a dear and precious soul, loved by everyone whose life she touched, and will be deeply missed.
A graveside service was held at Dutton Chapel Cemetery in Golconda, Illinois, on April 27, 2023, with Brother Kevin Richerson officiating.
