I had the extreme good fortune of meeting and beginning to learn from Don Hastie in late 1996…,Ever a gentleman, Don was very helpful and sharing with a novice Caterpillar Salesman… He grew to be a wonderful Friend and Mentor not only to me but my family as well… I will miss his calm demeanor but cherish all the times I spent with him…

Don was also a great supporter of mining and reclamation education. He provided rocks and minerals for tens of thousands of school kids and teachers working with the IAAP and the Illinois DNR education outreach programs. We will miss him greatly.
