Obituary of William “Bill” Cullum

William E. Cullum, 84, of rural route, Elizabethtown, IL passed away at his home on Thursday, June 16, 2022. William “Bill” Cullum was born in Hardin County on July 1, 1937 to Ralph and Mayme (Baugher) Cullum. He was a member of the First Apostolic Church of Rosiclare, IL. Bill graduated from Hardin County High School in 1955, then attended the University of Illinois, graduating with a degree in engineering and physics.
Bill served in the U.S. Army from 1960-1962. He worked with classified information as an assistant civil engineer at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. He worked for Hughes Tool Company for several years, which required a lot of travel. He worked for numerous mining companies as a surveyor. Bill, along with his dad, Ralph, and his brothers, Jim and Larry, formed their own corporation, Cullum Mining Company. Bill worked on the equipment and kept things running. Larry took care of the cows and the mowing, and Jim was the bookkeeper in charge of the finances. They all worked the hay field and ran a mining operation.
Bill loved to work on the farm, cleaning land and building roadways. He loved to hunt and spend time with the kids. He always enjoyed taking them on their first hunt. The kids will always have fond memories of those days with Uncle Bill.
Survivors include, Clay (Dena) Cullum, Rosiclare, IL; Matt (Jessica) Cullum, Elizabethtown, IL; niece Paula (Fabian) Lindsey, Lisle, IL; sister-in-law Melba Cullum, Rosiclare, IL; great-nephews and nieces Hunter, Bryson, Trevor and Daisy Cullum, Jordan Fowler, Brett (Matt) Lewis, April (Steve) Dollins, Andrea (Kyle) Bebout, Desirae (Tim) Golden; great-great-nephews and nieces, Gabriel, Jaidan, Kaizlee, Abigail, Jessica (Sophia and Ella), Tori, Ava, Kyleigh, Walker and Maggie; several cousins and relatives; special friends, Ronnie and Mary Anne Armstrong and Ken and Lois Jones.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Mayme Cullum; brothers, Jim and Larry Cullum,; infant sister, Betty; and infant great-niece, Briley Cullum.

The family of William “Bill” Cullum would like to thank Dr. Hastie, Dr. Sunga, Dr. Chatto, Andrea Bebout, Jessica Cullum, Matt Cullum, Hunter, Bryson, Trevor, Home Health, Hospice and the Hardin County nursing staff for all their care during Bill’s illness. Thanks also to Hardin County Funeral Services, Rev. Clay Cullum, Chaplain Ivan Ryan, Apostolic Church, The Flower Basket and the Paul C. Rowan American Legion Post # 571. So much appreciation to all those who called, visited and brought meals to Bill, he really enjoyed it all. The Lord’s blessing on you all.
