Obituary of Joan Flanery

Joan Flanery, 86, of Portsmouth, OH passed away Thursday, January 21, 2021 at Hillview Retirement Center in Portsmouth. Joan was born June 4, 1934 in Rosiclare, IL to the late Wiley Cochran and Sarah Helen Clark Cochran.
Joan was a graduate of Rosiclare High School and has an Associate Degree from Stevens College, Columbia, MO. She worked as school secretary at Wheelersburg Elementary School and belonged to Wheelersburg Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her husband Richard Flanery, October 7, 2015, whom she married June 12, 1954 in Rosiclare, IL; and a sister, Lois Profitt.
Joan is survived by two daughters, Cheryl (Dave) Bennett and Mary (Mark) Hoover; a brother, Jim Abbott (Ginger); three grandchildren, Tyler (Rachel) Bennett, Caitlin (Levi) Kise and Molly (Kevin) McKnight and eight great grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the Staff at Hillview Retirement Center for the excellent care they gave Joan.
Private family services for Joan were held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, January 25, 2021 at Harrison-Pyles Funeral Home in Wheelersburg with Pastor Perry Prosch officiating. Interment was in Memorial Burial Park. COVID restrictions require masks and social distancing. The funeral home does not provide masks.
