Shop with a Cop and Angel Tree offered through the Hardin County Sheriff’s Department

The Hardin County Sheriff’s Department announced Tuesday it will be putting on “Shop with a Cop” and adding “Angel Tree” this year since Hardin County Emergency Management Services is in the beginning stages of being reorganized.
Jessica Fricker said this will be the first year that the Sheriff’s Department has handled both charities, but its important to the community because so many families depend on this extra help at Christmas.
“Shop with a Cop” will be ran a little different this year. Parents will be notified of a specific date and time to meet at the courthouse in Elizabethtown where they can drive through, pick up their gifts, see Santa and visit with Sheriff Fricker and the local deputies. Due to COVID-19 the children will not be shopping with the officers.
“Angel Tree” will be held differently this year, too. The anonymous “Angel Tree” list will be published in the Hardin County Independent and on the Hardin County Sheriff’s Department facebook page. It will be done this way since the community won’t be able to access the Angel Trees in the bank lobbies due to being closed for COVID-19. Each child will be identified by a number. Choose the number(s) and call the Sheriff’s Department to reserve that child.
Families needing to apply for either charity may visit the Hardin County Sheriff’s Department in Elizabethtown or call 618-287-2271 by December 2.
To help support the “Shop with a Cop” program, the Sheriff’s Department is accepting new unwrapped gifts. Gifts may also be dropped off at the EMA Office in the courthouse, all three local Banterra Bank locations, and the Rosiclare Dollar General store. Monetary donation checks may be written to Hardin County Shop with a Cop.
