Flowering of the Cross –
For over 20 years Rosiclare First Baptist has incorporated the Flowering of the Cross into its Easter service. Due to the mandated isolation, this year the cross will be on the steps of the church along with a basket of flowers for anyone who wants to stop by and add to the cross. It will be made available on Easter Sunday at 9:00 a.m.
For most of our children this has been a very important part of their Easter and it is one that we can continue while maintaining social distancing. Have a very Blessed Easter and remember the tomb was empty, too.
Pastor Lowell Gowins with First Apostolic Church of Rosiclare will be holding a Live Easter Service to be broadcasted on its “FAC Facebook LIVE” page on Sunday, weather permitting. The service is planned to be held at 11:00 a.m. in the First Apostolic Church parking lot. The pastor asks that everyone stay in their cars and acknowledge social distancing directives, or watch from home on Facebook. The church will offer communion during the service. All communion items will be presented in factory packaging.
Pastor Chad Wease, formally of Cave In Rock, and currently living and pastoring in Lovington, New Mexico, will be giving an Easter morning message at 11 a.m. on “Hillcrest Baptist Church” Facebook page Sunday.
Pastor Stan Pennell with Bethany General Baptist Church will provide an Easter message on Sunday at 11:00 a.m. It can be seen on the Bethany General Baptist Church Facebook page. Pastor Stan also plans to lead a Bible study Wednesday night covering a chapter in 1 Samuel on the same Facebook page.
Visit the Praise on your Porch Facebook page. It’s a group of people in the community who wants to sing praises to God at 8:00 p.m. nightly in unison with one another from their own porch! A certain song or two is posted daily, so that everyone can praise in unison, while using social distance.
Potters Church, Cave In Rock will be doing an outside service Easter Sunday morning beginning at 10 a.m. There will be worship and preaching. Feel free to sit in your car, stand, or sit outside, but be considerate of others and keep your distance. The service will likely be live streamed to the Potters Church Facebook page.
Levee Pond Church, Cave In Rock will have a Drive In Easter Service with Communion Sunday morning at 11 a.m. They would like people to arrive around 10:30 a.m. so that a parking attendant can properly park everyone. The service will also be live streamed on the Levee Pond Church Facebook page.
Easter Sunrise Service canceled this year —
The 87th annual Easter Sunrise Service has been cancelled this year. Due to social distancing directives amidst the coronavirus pandemic, groups of people are not permitted to gather. Normally the service would take place at sunrise in the Cave In Rock State Park. All Illinois State Parks have been closed. The breakfast following the service and Easter egg hunt hosted by the First Christian Church has also been cancelled.
Those who have made it a tradition to attend and host this special service, along with many other community services this Easter holiday will be disappointed, but likely realize how most special it will be to participate in it again next year.
