Obituary of Larry Bates

Larry Bates “Kimosabe”, age 73, of Brownfield, IL passed away on Saturday, September 21, 2019 at home.
He was born on October 7, 1945 in Metropolis, IL to Douglas and Helen (Fowler) Bates. Larry served in the U.S. Navy.
He enjoyed horseback riding, hunting, fishing and working on cars. Larry loved to travel and helping family and friends. He had fought cancer since May of 2018.
Larry is survived by daughter, Tanna Sue Bates of Quincy, IL; one grandson, Tyler Bates in USAF Baltimore; two sisters, Sharon Orlowski of Portland, OR and Susan Shepard of Brownfield, IL; two brothers, Bobby Gene ”Leroy” Bates of Grantsburg, IL and Jerry (April) Farris; special nephew, Douglas A. (Wanda) Bates of Lake in the Hills, IL; niece, nephew, and many cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Ray Bates, Stephan Bates; sister-in-law, Carlene (Dale) Bates.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, September 25, 2019 at Aly Funeral Home in Eddyville, IL. Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 26, 2019 at the funeral home. Pastor Tommy Dutton will conduct the service. Burial will follow at the Reevesville Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by the VFW Post 9227 and American Legion Post 719 of Golconda, and US NAVY Funeral Honors Team at the graveside.

    Larry was such a jolly personality.
    He,My Husband Jim and Myself rode horses many times.
    Never a minute without laughing.
    Even when all the Men on a ride.. rode Their horses into Fiddles Green. I sat back on My horse and laughed.
    Good times to remember.
    Larry tell Jim(Bud) hello for Me.

    Goodby my old friend.
    Thats hard for me to say ,especially to good and loyal friends.
    There will never be another one like him.
    If you had him as a friend,,
    You had a friend for life.
    God speed brother.
