Kids kicked off Summer Reading Program with cool and sweet treat

Kids met Monday, June 3 for the first Summer Reading Programs date at the Rosiclare Memorial Public Library. It was a wonderful start to the summer program. The group had to move out of the library to the Fluorspar Festival Committee community room due to the great turn out of about 27 kids and many other visitors.
Jennifer Warren from the University of Illinois Extension Office was the presenter that day. Jennifer talked about different fruits and then the kids made a smoothie drink from different fresh fruits. The kids really enjoyed the smoothie! They always learn and have fun at Jennifer’s presentations.
Richard Williams from Smoke on the Ohio restaurant donated a Coke for each child who participated. Richard generously allowed library workers to make more coupons for Cokes when they discovered that the attendance was greater than expected.
Next Monday, June 17, Lora Jacobs will present an Ag in the Classroom program.
The Summer Reading Program will continue each Monday, from 11 a.m. until noon at the Rosiclare Memorial Public Library (Main Street). All kids are welcome to join this free event. On Monday, July 15th WPSD TV’s Jason Lindsey “Mr. Science” will host the program. (See the Independent in upcoming weeks for more details). The last regular scheduled program date will be Monday, July 29. There will be prizes for attendance at each program. There will be a drawing at the final program for 2 Kindle Fire tablets, a gift basket donated by the Dollar General store, and other great prizes.
