Obituary of Ruth N. (Dutton) Riley

Ruth N. (Dutton) Riley of Eldorado, IL, formerly of Cave In Rock, IL died May 19, 2019 at the age of 97. She was the eighth child of ten. Ruth was born August 17, 1921 to Rev. George and Ethel (Slayton) Dutton in Hardin County, IL. She grew up in the Rock Creek Community and attended Rock Creek Grade School. She gave her life to Christ at a young age and was strong in her faith throughout her life. She was a member of Rock Creek General Baptist Church.
From her marriage to Wendell Hobbs, a daughter Shelba Jean was born. In 1958 Ruth and her daughter moved to Carbondale, IL to find work. Two years later Ruth moved to Murphysboro, IL and enrolled in beauty school to become a beautician. Upon finishing beauty school, she returned to Rosiclare and opened her own beauty shop.
Ruth enjoyed visiting with friends, but her greatest enjoyment was attending church and spending time with her family.
Ruth is survived by her daughter, Shelba J. Renfroe; grandson, James A. Renfroe; granddaughter Shelia (Joe) Hicks; two great-granddaughters, Destiny (Michael) Jenkins, Tamara (Bryan) Mitchell; two great-grandsons, Randall Renfroe, and Craig Asbell; 10 great-great-grandchildren; 2 step-great-grandchildren; and several step-great-great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Rev. George and Ethel Dutton; 5 brothers; and 3 sisters.
Ruth was the last of this large Dutton family. Ruth was loved and will be sadly missed by her daughter, Shelba J. Renfroe; grandson, James A Renfroe and family; and granddaughter, Shelia Hicks and family.
Service will be held at Hardin County Funeral Service in Rosiclare, IL on Thursday, May 23, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. Family will receive visitors from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at funeral home. Burial will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Cave In Rock, IL.
