Obituary of Thomas Henry Douglas

Thomas Henry Douglas passed away quietly just after 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 5, 2019 in McKinney, Texas. He was 88.
Born on October 9, 1930, near Cave-In-Rock, Illinois, he was the only son of Thomas Quentin Douglas and Connie Edmondson Douglas, also of Cave-In-Rock.
T.H., as he was fondly known by family and friends, was subsequently raised in Hardin County, graduating from Cave-In-Rock High School. After serving as a Sergeant in the United States Army stationed in Alaska’s radar unit during the Korean conflict, Thomas returned home upon his discharge.
On August 20, 1955, Thomas married the love of his life, Margret Mary Humm, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church near Elizabethtown. Shortly thereafter, they moved into their lifelong home at Humm’s Wye. In August 1961, they welcomed their only daughter, Lisa. Never apart from each other in life, T.H. and Margie remained an adoring union for 49 years until Margie’s passing in March of 2004.
T.H. was employed for decades at Portland Cement and LaFarge until his retirement. He also worked the family farm after hours and weekends. He was dedicated to the St. Joseph parish he attended regularly and was deeply devoted to his family. He loved animals, taking in any who needed a home. In his spare time, he enjoyed the outdoors and watching sports.
In February of 2016, Thomas re-located to North Texas to reside with his daughter until his passing.
He is preceded in death by his wife and both of his parents; as well as his in-laws Carl and Cora Humm; and his nephew, Kevin Belt.
Thomas is survived by his daughter, Lisa. Other family remaining includes sister-in-law Jean Belt of Champaign, Illinois; her son Kent Belt; and extended family living in Southern Illinois and Eastern Kentucky.
A memorial celebration and interment will be held on Friday, May 3, 2019. Visitation will begin at 12:00 noon at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Elizabethtown, to be followed by 1:00 p.m. service and burial.
Remembrance contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital in Memphis, TN.
His daughter wishes to thank all of those who loved Thomas. He will be greatly missed by all who were touched by his kind nature and knew his generous heart – as a husband, a father, a son, and a friend.
